WPGE Bull Run Slalom and Downriver Race

Postponed Again
Low Water

The Bull Run river is again too low to hold the race this weekend.
Depending upon interest, we can hold it next weekend.  If you
are interested in participating next weekend email me.   The gates are
all up and will remain up for several more weeks.  We just need it to
rain above there, not snow.  When it does rain, it will get high fast.

Third slalom race of the NW Slalom Cup

We are holding the very last Bull Run Slalom on the dates above. I promise that this will really be the last BR race, I know I told you this last year. We anticipated little water in the river this year, but we were wrong. There is a substantial amount of snow and with the snow there is water coming from the Little Sandy and with lots of rain water coming from the Bull Run. However, the river at our site is more prone to fluctuations in levels. So, if the river is too high, or more likely too low, on March 29-30th, we will hold the race on April 5th and 6th. After that PGE (Portland General Electric) begins to demolish the powerplant in mid May

Check the Bull Run at Bull Run guage at: http://www.wkcc.org/levels/?P=Oregon.html
If there flows are below 400 cfs or above 1600 cfs we will cancel the race the first weekend and hold it the second weekend. Same goes for the second weekend. Flows over 1200 cfs are challenging. Right now its a solid class III-III+ but we expect lower flows for the race.

The schedule of events is as follows:

Friday Course construction – we could sure use some help here.

Saturday - practice on the course, coaching, or more accurately, group training if we can organize it. A downriver race if we can organize it.

Sunday 10:30 am - race begins.

Directions: Take Hwy I-84 east from Portland through Troutdale over the Sandy River and exit #18. Turn left and go up the Sandy River, past the Tippy Canoe Bar, into Springdale (3-4 miles). As you are leaving Springdale keep to the right onto Hurlburt Rd (there is a sign there for the Bull Run). Stay on Hurlburt Rd for about 4 miles then at a flashing light make a right onto Gorden Creek Rd. Take Gordon Creek Rd 9 or 10 miles watching for a steel bridge crossing over Bull Run river, then turn immediately right into the Bull Run power plant parking lot.
