Cedar Break-In

This past year, in the afternoon while paddling at the Cedar, my car was broken into.  The car was parked just downstream of the bridge in the gravel parking area that also serves as the start of the Cedar River Trail.  The thieves were especially bold as I was paddling in the stretch close to the bridge when the break-in occurred.  I was away from the car for an hour and a half.  My car was locked, but they must have wedged the door open enough to pop the lock and get inside.  It's clear that they knew what they were doing.  Fortunately, my wallet and keys were with me, but they took most things that were in the car: a bag of extra paddling gear, a backpack with dry clothes, vehicle registration, and even a couple of road atlases.     This could have happened at any put-in, take-out, or trailhead.  Please take some time to secure your car before leaving it anywhere.  If you have a way to lock your trunk with a key so that the quick release by the driver's seat doesn't work, please use it.

STOLEN WHITEWATER BOAT!
Friday night, May 14, 2004
Stolen from back yard - Alki beach neighborhood in West Seattle
bright Green Prijon Kaituna (8 feet long) Name inside boat, but may be faded.
Ratchet backband, Salamander throw rope, and lots of weird foam outfitting!

Should be a pretty unique boat - I don't believe too many people paddle a Prijon Kaituna anymore!

If you see or hear about it, please call or e-mail: Jennie Goldberg,
