Please note that effective Monday, 16-March-2020, all Washington Kayak Club-sponsored events are cancelled until further notice.

Please read the statement below from the Washington Kayak Club:

"It is becoming more and more apparent that COVID-19 can be spread unknowingly by people not showing symptoms. As you think about how and whether to participate in any activity, please consider the idea of "universal precautions."

"Universal precautions" is the idea that we need to assume that everyone is infected. Please consider what it would be like if you knew that everyone on your trip had COVID-19, including you. This is a disease that is very contagious, sometimes for weeks before people look or feel sick. There is a real risk that even if you are symptom free, you may pass the virus to someone who then gets sick or worse.

"Thank you for keeping the safety of our community a priority. Thank you for your cooperation during this health advisory period."

The Spring Cedar Race scheduled for March 21-22, 2020 is a WKC-sponsored event.

The League supports that decision and recognizes the severity of COVID-19 outbreak on our community but I am letting you, my paddling friends, know that we will be at the Cedar Gates this coming weekend following loosely the previously published schedule.

This is not an event.

There will be no registration fees, no insurance coverage, and no waivers.

There could however, be timing, bibs, judging, and prizes.

I trust all those out paddling the Cedar this coming weekend will practice and respect each other's social distancing tolerances.

The course was completed in record time on Friday.

About 20 paddlers enjoyed the group paddle down the river on Saturday, too.

Update 10/1/15

The Nooksack race has been cancelled.  This was due unfortunately to a lack of commitment in setting up the course.  So mark your calendars (October) for next year so we can make this race happen!

Update 9/26/15

Nooksack Race is upon us.  October 3rd and 4th!  Check HERE for the flyer.

Update 7/25/15

tThe Roaring River slalom is on for August 8th and 9th.  Lisa Day had to jump through a lot of hoops to make this happen, so try to make it!  Gate hanging will be the week brefore August 1st and 2nd.  There won't be a slalom clinic this year but if you are a first timer come on out the other paddlers will be glad to help you out.  Also John Lechmanik (World Kayak Ambassador - Hood River) will be providing some SWAG for first timers.  So if you haven't raced before, come on out.  You might be taking something home with you.  Information is HERE

Update 7/8/15

Lisa Day says the Roaring River Slalom is a go on August 8th and 9th.  The course will be set up the weekend prior (Aug 1st and 2nd) so if you are free come on out and help set up the course.  More information including course set up and start time will be coming soon.  But mark your calendar and come on out.  Campsites go REAL fast so make sure you get online and reserve yours now...

Update 7/3/15

Slalom and downriver races on the Chilliwack River - July 23-26!!

Downriver is 1 pm on Thursday.  Slalom open class is Sunday, July 26 at 9 am.

Update 5/14/15

The 2015 Salmon LaSac race info has been posted.  Check it out HERE

Update 4/29/15

Cedar River race has been cancelled due to low water

Update 4/24/15

The Bull Run races is postponed again.  It seems the flows aren't quite enough to warrant a race on the course.  We hope to reschedule for May, stay tuned for updates.

Update 4/16/15

It appears the predicted flow for Bull Run will be in the 400 range this weekend which is too low.  So the race has been postponed to the following weekend.  We will post updates as we find out more.

Update 4/7/15

The results from the Riverhouse Slalom event are posted.  So far, the Riverhouse Slalom Race is in the lead for the most participants for the 2015 NW Whitewater Cup Series!  Over 50 runs were posted and 42 people signed up and many paddled more than one class. We even had Junior boaters from Canada.

Good coverage by the local Bend paper:

 http://www.bendbulletin.com/sports/communitysports/2963710-151/the-riverhouse-hosts-whitewater-rendezvous

Also the Bull Run Slalom Race is scheduled for April 19th with a practice date of  April 18th.  This race is very flow dependant (Goldilocks, not too high, not too low) so we will be watching the flow and making the call on April 16th.  Check out the full description here.

Update 3/3/15
The
Chilliwack Slalom and Boater Cross race is on for the weekend of March 21 & 22nd.  You can find more info here

Update 3/3/15
2015 Riverhouse Rendezvous Slalom is coming up March  28 & 29th.  You can find more info Here
